meghan, i usually don't ask for permission to take a photograph. it only happend 3 or 4 times since i came to new york that i asked the people before photographing them. yes it's hard to photograph strangers! you can just try to communicate with them before or after taking the shot with your eyes, smile at them, show them respect. and if they ask you what you are doing, explain and talk to the people. if someone shows me that they don't want their picture to be taken i respect that and go on. it's all about exercising, beeing comfortable about what you do. that's still hard for me and a challenge but i enjpy taking this challenge...

I love the movement in this shot. I'm curious - do you ask people if you can take their picture? This is one of the hardest things for me and I'd love to know how you handle it. Thanks!
