Preparing for my trip to Washington, DC
There is not much to write this evening. I'll be going to Washington, DC tomorrow morning to photograph the Anti-War March organized by "United for Peace & Justice".
I'll be going there with a bus organized by "Brooklyn Parents for Peace". I'll meet a co-worker of mine and the correspondent of FM4 (Austrian Broadcast) at 5:30 in the morning. The bus leaves in front of the Brooklyn Academy of Music at 6 am which basically means that I'll have to leave Co-Op City at about 3 am... Not much time to sleep and still have some work to do.
I am putting all my photography gear together. Usually I only cary the Canon EOS 20D with the 17-40mm lens attached with me. Tomorrow I'll go there fully equiped. The digital SLR with two lenses from Canon, I'll carry my Leica M6 with a 35mm lens and I am thinking of taking an old Mamiya C330 with me which I recently bought on e-bay. Carrying three different cameras with you while shooting is probably not the smartest idea and I'll for sure shoot most of the time with the EOS 20D since I want to be able to send the photographs right away tomorrow night. I'll probably leave the Mamiya back home... Let's see.
But I have to be honest. Although I adore the possibitlies the digital camera offers I feel the need to once in a while shoot with my lovely Leica again. And let me tell you, my M6 is a little angry on me already. Only shot two rolls of film with it since I came to New York at the end of April... You can read some more thoughts on digital versus film in the FAQ section of my About page.
I am anyway looking forward to tomorrows trip to Washington, DC. Marching against the war is a good thing in my personal opinion. And although Hurricane Rita is on it's way to the US coast it's still an adequate time to go on the streets and speak out against war. Just see how much money is put into the war and how the governemtn failed to react properly on Hurricane Katrina. Take a look at the majority of victims of Katrina. Those have for sure not been the rich people but those who already had nothing before the storm. This said I guess the US has it's issues and fighting this war in Iraq is in my humble opinion not a way to solve them. More to come tomorrow. Fight the power!
